ABOUT US

Restaurants have existed, in one form or another, for thousands of years. Over 99% of that time has seen restaurants providing food made from fresh and raw ingredients, prepared by skilled workers who recognized that they were providing more than just sustenance for their guests.
The remaining time in the history of restaurants has seen the advent of the microwave / freezer combination, outsourcing production of even the simplest food items, food additives, processed foods, and so on. This has become the model for the modern restaurant, and we'd like to change that.
When designing our menu, careful thought was put into the ability to craft items freshly, in hous seven days a week. It soon became obvious that this was the path we would have be on in order to avoid microwaves, freezers, and heat lamps. The result is the carefully planned preparation of fresh food daily, right here in Pittsburgh.
Our atmosphere features reclaimed materials alongside hand made items and is designed to feel more like home than a restaurant. We invite you to be our guest, and enjoy the difference fresh cooking and a passion for service can bring.

@ Market sq & Southside
Winghart’s began as a small counter in Market Square with a simple philosophy: what if you took the preparation practices of a world class fine dining restaurant and applied it to simple “bar” food? Burgers, Pizza, Mac and Cheese, and, of course, Fries came to life in a whole new light. Stripping away the old ideas that frozen, processed food was needed for speed and consistency in the casual dining environment proved to be interesting indeed.
Today, our menu is a testament to years of experimentation, passion, and sticking to our guns when it comes to food freshly made. Every menu item is made in house, down to each and every sauce. Even further, practices typically reserved for fine dining food preparation are in some of the most unlikely places: our Whiskey Barbeque starts by flambéing Jameson Irish whiskey. Our Buffalo sauce uses bacon grease during the emulsification process. Our burgers are ground seven days a week and brought to you fresh those seven days. Our fries undergo a strict 2 day, 6 step process before reaching you, and our White Truffle Fries, which use some of the finest imported truffle oil and a house made truffle aioli, were voted best fries in Pittsburgh by over 68,000 voters via the Pittsburgh Post - Gazette.
Choosing to make our food fresh is, to us, not a choice. It isn’t always easy, but we are committed to bringing you the highest quality food possible. It’s a labor of love, and we can’t wait for you to enjoy eating it as much as we enjoy preparing it.
- A note about refined peanut oil – multiple studies have shown that, even in persons highly and severely allergic to peanut oil, there is virtually zero chance of allergic reaction when eating food fried in refined peanut oil, like the type we use. For those who are concerned, we encourage reading the results of these reports and learning the science behind refined oils for restaurant use. We care deeply for our customers, and are always considering safety above all other priorities. Currently peanut oil is considered so safe for the general public, even those with severe peanut allergies, that restaurants are not required by the FDA or ADHC to notify the use of refined peanut oil on premises.

DRINK
Alcohol is the result of a simple natural process called fermentation. When this process is harnessed and refined, something fantastic happens. Techniques have evolved over millennia to bring us thousands of spirits, liqueurs, beer, and wine. The resulting products are oft easily drunk solitarily, but, in the right hands, the true magic of alcohol comes from the mixing of these components.
Cocktails have changed so much - from early necessity driven chugs like "grog" - to the finely layered "Pousse Cafe" - and far beyond. Modern bar craftsmanship has opened a new arena of culinary expertise, where the combinations depend on measurements as small as milliliters and can contain thousands of ingredients.
At Winghart's, we strongly believe two simple ideas when it comes to cocktails and alcohol - it should be of the absolute highest quality possible, served by as knowledgable a person as is possible, and there will be no sense of pretentiousness from the bar. A jack and coke has just as much merit as does a perfectly crafted Vieux Carre or Death in the Afternoon, because we serve you, not drinks, at Winghart's. It's all about what you like, so have a seat, relax, and enjoy some of the finest libations around made with homemade tonics, bitters, tinctures, fortified and fortified juices, a craft beer, or one of our 70 plus whiskies. It's your show, we are just the stage crew.
